Well, I am sitting here drinking hot chocolate and not novelling. I have written some of my novel today, but I fear I am falling behind my targets. I'm not doing too badly wordcount wise, only about a thousand less than I had hoped by this point, but I'm really not happy with the story, which makes it harder to think of things to write. I have a feeling that maybe I just don't have that much material for it, I'm currently padding. Maybe it would be better as a short story. I'm not sure having signed up for it that I like the whole quantity not quality thing. But I guess it does make me get something down, otherwise I never get further than a couple of pages as I keep re-writing it, once I've finished this I can always edit it, I don't care if that goes against the spirit of it.

Proof, if proof were needed, that I have obsessive tendencies:

I walked to and from the supermarket this afternoon, having walked around at work and at home sorting out Hullabaloo stuff. When I got home from Morrison's I looked at my pedometer and found that the battery had died. My immediate reaction? "I could have driven to the supermarket instead." Proving that I really don't care about walking for the sake of my personal fitness, but was doing it to try to get high numbers on the pedometer. I did do well over 10000 yesterday, I did 14136! not bad I think. The annoying thing is that I'm inherantly lazy and am unlikely to go and buy a new battery, it's annoying that it died, it was new and had even had one of those plastic tags to pull out. I had wondered why the display was so hard to read, a poor battery might explain it. I know I need to get more exercise, but in general I just don't want to, I need something like the pedometer to encourage me to do more. I used to go swimming, but it's so expensive, I just can't afford to keep going, I have no money.

Random observation of the day

I am having a lot of difficulty trying to burn Helen and Rob's wedding DVD :-( it takes much longer than it should and so far I have 3 duff copies (well, the first one is fine technically, but it was the demo and I made changes in the files since then, trying to make a DVD of the finished version is proving to be problematic).

Wow, today I did the recommended number of steps! 10366. I was on my feet at work all day (it's my day off, but I'd been asked to work at a different library because someone was ill) and then I had to go out to a retirement do, and there we go, I did over 10000 steps. i do a lot of walking at work really, it's just that since I don't work full time I don't normally rack up that much walking.

So today's stats:
Steps taken: 10366
Km walked: 6.53
Calories burnt: 460.5 (well clearly that's calories burnt off by walking and doesn't count lifting and carrying etc plus I'm sure typing burns off lots of calories, I mean the fingers are moving all the time).

Okay, so expect posts here to be few and far between for the next month, not that that's particularly uncommon. However, I have embarked on the novel writing challenge. My work in progress is here: Mind The Gap so it'd be great if you, my loyal readers could have a look and send comments etc. Be warned, it's not a ridiculous comedy novel, I'm actually trying a serious story! Which I'm not sure is going to work, because this is me and I like insanity, ahh well, we shall see, I like the idea I have for the book, I just don't want it to become all pretentious or anything.

Random observation of the day

I have a pedometer! I decided to see how far off the recommended number of steps I take a day (I know that there's no way I actually walk as much as I'm supposed to) the recommended is 10,000 a day. Anyway, I got it on Friday night and started counting steps over the weekend. However, I discovered I couldn't make it count accurately, it was always under, must move oddly when I walk. I finally last night found a way to make it more accurate, by attaching it to my sock! So now I can give you fun stats on my walking habits.

Remember Saturday and Sunday are quite a lot under the actual number of steps taken, I don't know how much by though, they're probably at least 3/4 of the steps though.

Sat: 6014
Sun 2917
Monday 6424 (4.04 Km)

Monday isn't over, so that's not the full count, but I feel it's unlikely that I'll do more than about 1 to 200 steps tonight since I plan on sitting at the computer most of the time with just a little walking downstairs to make dinner.

So as we can see I do not walk nearly enough. Although I was pleased to see that I walk more than I had feared. Except on Sundays which was scarily low, though it was a quiet Sunday, often I'm rushing around for Hullabaloo.
