We went to see
Hot Fuzz last night and it was brilliant. Everything these guys do just seems to work so well. I didn't like it quite as much as
Shaun of the Dead, but it's definitely one to add to the DVD collection when it's released. Also, thinking about Shaun of the Dead, that's got better every time I watched it, in much the same way that
Spaced does, so it's probable that this will too, these guys comedys seem to have such a depth that there are things you only notice on your second or third time through.
Just like Shaun of the Dead, this film was very British, comedy is probably the one thing we do exceptionally well over here, not all the time by any means, but occasionally something comes along that is just so much better than the films from the States, which always seem to need to explain the humour as if the audience is too dense to understand it if all of the jokes don't fall on you like a ton of bricks. I just can't see an American film managing to be as funny, would any American have a shoot-out somewhere as mundane as a
Somerfield? So yes, best film I've seen for a while, certainly the best comedy cop film, I think I'm going to have to be careful that I don't start idolising
Simon Pegg and the others, it does seem like everything they do is incredible.
So, what else has been going on? Not a lot, my work and life have been mirroring each other, the library is closed for refurbishment and this has spurred me on to get a bit of decorating done at home. Having boxed up all of the books and cleared posters etc. off all of the walls, I'm living a nomadic five weeks in the library service, going wherever I can be of most use.
