Welcome to Ali's blog. A blog that has absolutely nothing to do with juggling monkeys. It doesn't really have anything to do with much, just me rambling on about random things.

We've had no internet access at work for most of this week. It's really annoying. Other libraries have been having problems, some sort of virus affected the county headquarters, however we seem to be one of the worst affected, most others were working yesterday, albeit slowly, ours were still down today, it may not seem that big a deal, but a lack of internet in the libraries means that you can't access the main system for dealing with all the stock, we can't renew, join new borrowers (tiny people), check the catalogue, relocate books or anything like that, we have to just write everything down ready to type it all in when the computers are back working again. Technically we can do issues and discharges, we have a backup system for that, but it's running incredibly slowly and no one's 100% sure if that was unaffected, so on Wednesday we wrote down the 14 digit barcode for every single book borrowed in case they don't get recovered when we come out of backup. When it was still down on Thursday though we stopped doing that. We are still keeping all the books that have been brought back in the back room, so there's going to be an awful lot of shelving to do when the computers are back up and running.

Lack of internet also makes homework help harder, though on the plus side it meant that we got to encourage teenagers to actually look in books instead of just using the computer as their first point of call, though I have to confess that my inherant laziness means that frequently the computer is my first point of call too. Lack of internet has meant that the public computers are free most of the time should anyone wish to use them for Word or Excel or anything like that, not CD Roms though, since we don't actually have any, they're all stored centrally and accessed via the internet.

We were still down when we left at 5 today, since the ICT people finish at 5:30 and don't work Saturdays I have a feeling that we won't be back up till Monday, though there is an emergency ICT number to contact on Saturday's, but I don't know if they'll continue trying to sort out the problem or not. If not it could be a fun morning if lots of people come in. Thankfully so far people have been understanding about not being able to check their emails etc. I mean it's irritating, but it's not really anyone's fault.

I'm not sure if I had more things to do tonight, I was making stuff for Hullabaloo, but then I kind of stopped to eat dinner and haven't restarted, ahh well, I'm sure I'm pretty much sorted, just need to buy some things for some of the games we'll play on Sun.
